A blog by any other name

What is a blog? That is the question.

Two years ago, I had absolutely no idea what a blog was. I thought it sounded like a disease. Now I'm starting my very own blog all by myself! Amazing! (Not really, most of you are thinking, but I tend to get excited about little things.)

This blog is mainly set up for those who want to see what I saw though the camera's eye and look at the digital scrapbook pages I created from those photos. It is for
FUN!

I am not an art major. I studied the sciences and math in college. If you choose to make comments, please be very gentle and encouraging. Thank you.

The first scrapbook layout I did was of this gorgeous beach on Ike (ee-kay) Island, just off the east coast of Okinawa. This island was accessible by bridge from the main island of Okinawa, so one day we drove over there. As we came down a hill, we saw this lovely view. We tried to get closer, but the beach was owned privately and it cost quite a bit to get past the screened-in fences.

We had been able to see the beach from the cliff top, so we drove back up the hill as far as we could, hiked up to the top of the hill and took pictures. I really like this combination of colors: the turquoise of the calm waters, the brown of the rough rocks, and the bright green of the grass above.

I used the free kit “Berrylicious” by Vicki from “A Work in Progress” at vicki20.blogspot.com. Her materials are wonderful and all free. If you’d like to start digital scrapbooking, try her site.

The program I used was a graphics program called GIMP that I was able to download for free. It is challenging to use since there isn’t as much technical support for it as for the more expensive and more widely used Photoshop, but I was able to get it to work for me. If you have young people in your house, just let them loose on the program and then have them teach you.

Come visit again and see what I saw!
