Laughing Out Loud

At a recent family gathering, one part of the group suddenly erupted in laughter. I never did find out what was so funny, but I love this series of photos.

Vacation Memory

During our family vacation in 1961, we stayed at a cabin just 15 miles north of Dad’s hometown. Grandma and Grandpa drove over for the day, and together with my parents, they caught their limit of blue-gills. At 4, 3, and 1, I’m sure my sisters and I weren't any help at all.

But the most memorable part of the vacation came when my dad went for a swim one day. One-year-old Liz was just barely able to walk, but she managed to get away from Mom and toddle after Dad. When he walked out into the lake and dove in, so did she, but she sank like a rock. Dad turned around, saw the splash, heard Mom yelling, and immediately swam back to where Liz was laying on the bottom of the lake.

When Dad pulled her out of the water, Liz was as limp as a wet noodle. It took awhile before she came around, coughing and sputtering. By the grace of God, she hadn’t inhaled much water, so she was fine, but to this day she doesn’t really like swimming. Perhaps she subconsciously remembers her first swim.

I am very thankful we never had a repeat of this particular vacation memory.

A Rugged Hike

When hiking in Superior National Forest, Harry and I decided to take a longer, 3-mile route around three lakes instead of the shorter, less scenic route. A relaxing stroll through the pine forest quickly turned into a rugged climb on boulder-strewn trails. The further we went, the more my knees complained, so I slowed down to smell and photograph the wildflowers along the way. It was worth it!

You May Now Kiss the Bride!

My two sisters and I had our kids (4+3+3) within a four-and-a-half year span. Mary was the first of the ten cousins to get married. Here is a layout of the cute couple, including their first kiss as husband and wife.
