Leaving the Farm

My dad grew up on a farm during the depression. The family sold both eggs and chickens (just the roosters - sex discrimination). They also sold cream, wheat, oats, flax and barley. There were always lots of chores for Dad and his five brothers: milking the cows morning and evening, separating the cream from the milk, cleaning the cream separator, shoveling (guess what) in the barn, …

For Dad, education was the key to leaving farm life behind. Dad was the first in his family to graduate from college. When this picture was taken, Mom and Dad were saying goodbye to Dad’s parents before pulling a trailer to Montana where he had a new job as a civil engineer.

I'm really proud of my dad!
