BMX

Two weeks ago the temperature hit an all-time high and the BMX bikers were out in full force. Here are a few shots of their amazing aerial acrobatics.

Artists in Training

David painted with watercolors while his younger brothers drew with chalk, but all the boys enjoyed creating their masterpieces.

My Extraordinary Sisters

I am very blessed to have two extraordinary sisters, Nancy and Liz. These pages are tributes to them.

Nancy has had many, many different roles in her life: daughter, sister, student, nurse, wife, mother, teacher, mother-in-law, grandma and more. She has handled them all with great aplomb. In 2011, after taking care of her wheel-chair-bound husband for five months as he battled brain cancer, she was given another role: widow. I admire her for how she has handled this very hard time, and pray for the Lord to hold her in the palm of his hand, guiding, protecting and comforting her as she travels this new path.

Stitches of Love

Mom sewed so many things for our family over the years that she was able to make this enormous quilt just from the leftover scraps of fabric. Isn't this amazing?

I don't know what she did when the three of us girls were little, but when the ten grandchildren started coming, my mom bought a serger and went into big production mode. She once showed me the calendar on which she kept records of measurements for each grandchild. She also attached fabric scraps and notes about what she'd made for who so she could keep track, not duplicate and be fair. It was pretty incredible!

Now Mom has Alzheimer's and doesn't remember anything she sewed or even how to sew. This layout is a tribute to her lifelong service for others.

Spring Fever

Where is it more fun to play, a playground, or a shallow puddle of muddy water? These kids decided on the latter. I had a ton of fun taking pictures of them as they enjoyed the snow-melt "pond". Note the difference in the way the girls and boys played. Having raised three sons, I wasn't surprised at which group ended up more wet and dirty.

Journaling: March 14, 2012 - Record-high temperatures caused a huge shallow puddle to form next to the playground. The girls gingerly waded around and tried to catch water bugs while the boys got as wet and dirty as possible. After all, why walk through muddy water when you can run?

Yes!

It was so romantic! John secretly stashed his guitar and a blanket in a nearby park, and then brought Kristine there. After he sang her a song he had written himself, he took out the ring and popped the question. Guess what she said!

February Swap Crop

I thought you might enjoy seeing layouts from the "Swap Crop" challenge I joined last month at Scrap Girls. Each participant gave a photo(s) to one person, received a photo(s) from another, and made a layout with the photo(s) they received. I ended up making a page for Sara that I'll show you in a bit, while Jody made a lovely page for me. In order to really appreciate what Jody did, you have to see the original photo.

This was supposedly a family portrait, but ended up being a great shot of Harry and me. I tried many times to do a page using this photo before, but ran into problems with the busy background. Here is how Jody beautifully solved the problem. Thanks, Jody!

Here is the page I made for Sara using photos from a rafting trip. The trip was the "Groom's Treat" for a wedding where the groom's name was Wild --- thus a "Wild Wedding"!

Wasn't this a fun idea?

Christmas Nostalgia

These are two pages I made about Christmas in 2010. The memories are very special because our whole clan was able to get together, which doesn't happen often, and, unbeknownst to us at the time, this was our last Christmas with my brother-in-law, Bill. Bill died of a brain tumor in September 2011; we all miss him.

Inspired by ad selected by Jen Reed; hexagon template made by me; Kit: Noël d'antan by Lilas Digiscrap; painted metal action by Atomic Cupcake; Fonts (including those used for titles): Arial, Monotype Corsiva Italic, Arial Bold, Engravers MT Bold Expanded, Baveuse, Quadranta Bold, Bosshole, Calvin and Hobbes, Earwig Factory, GiovanniITCTT, Gorilla Heavy, Kristen ITC Semi-Expanded

Journaling:
At Christmastime, our family often plays a game with inexpensive, wrapped gag gifts. At the end of the game, each person opens their presents, and we all laugh at the odd combinations: David, tiny purse; Dad, huge sunglasses; Mom, stuffed caterpillar; Marie, huge foam hand; John, clown nose and hat, posing with Dad's sunglasses; Russ, dancing marshmallow man; Bill, tiara.

Front: John, Liz (my niece), David; Couch: Nancy, Mom, Dad, Liz (my sister); Sides and behind couch: Sam, Becca, Marie, Sue, Harry, Ruth, Billy; Back: Steven, Bill, Mary Russ, Sarah, Jim

Some of you may recognize "Christmas Craziness" since I already posted that page here and here using a couple of different kits. I keep changing my mind!
