Grandpa's Little Helper

I don't know who had more fun, Grandpa or one-year-old Billy, as they both drove around on the riding mower.

New Grad, New Mom

It was quite an achievement! Nancy had worked very hard during her last year of study for her masters in nursing. She attended classes, wrote papers, and worked in the hospital, all while she was pregnant with her first child. Bill and Nancy were delighted when little Billy arrived. Nancy did not do well in the delivery and was pretty weak due to low hemoglobin, but she insisted on walking in the graduation ceremony three days after Billy was born. Look at the big smiles of the proud parents as Billy sleeps like a baby!

Night at the Orchestra

The December 2013 Buffalo Community Orchestra winter concert was one of the most fun local productions I have ever attended. Besides the orchestra, four other groups participated: a bell choir, a high school choir, a community choir, and a children's ballet company.  Each group performed a couple of numbers, and at the end the musical groups combined to perform the Hallelujah Chorus.  My favorite part of the concert was watching the ballet troupe perform to music from the Tchaikovsky's Nucracker Suite.

Celebrating Dad

My dad was born in April, so this seemed like a good month to revisit his 80th birthday celebration.  Here is another layout featuring Dad at 80.  You can see the first one I created here.

According to my blog stats, the older page is the third most visited page of all my posts over all the years.  It is one of my favorite pages, too.  Everyone must agree with me that Dad looked pretty good at 80!

The Hunt - Easter 2014

Our family likes hunting for Easter eggs so much that we have kept up the tradition long past when our kids were little.  This year the younger adults (kids) hid plastic eggs containing chocolate for the older adults (parents and Grandpa).  Afterwards, the elders hid chocolate eggs and candy for the younger ones to find.  We all had fun!

Template by me, based on a Tetris puzzle; Papers from Paula Wright’s Bunny Baskets Collection Biggie (re-colored to match foil wrappers); Font: Love Ya Like a Sister

I submitted this page to the Thursday 4/24 Art Challenge at Scrap Girls Digital Scrapbooking. For my inspiration, I used a set of Tetris pots, found here.

1. Grandpa and grandkids
2. “Cheese!” “What?!”
3. “Any candy left out there?”
4. A new use for an Easter basket
5. Dueling cameras
6. “I found two! Did I win?”
7. Steven found the most candy.
8. Riley wanted to hunt for eggs, too.

Brooklyn Beauty

Angelica, affectionately known as Cissy, lived in a number of different places throughout her life, but she never lost her Brooklyn accent. She passed away in 2014, and we miss her.

I created this page for Ginny Whitcomb's new kit, Softly Spoken Collection Biggie.  The soft pinks and blues along with the vintage-style elements make this kit perfect for memory pages.  Ginny also created border and cluster embellishment sets to go along with her lovely kit.  Pick up Value Pack: Softly Spoken and receive all three sets for one low price!  All of these sets are 30% off at Scrap Girls Digital Scrapbooking for just today and tomorrow, 4/11/14 and 4/12/14.  Click on the links or images below to check them out!

Blessings Overflowing

You may ask, "Where in the world did this layout come from?" Good question! If you look at Nomad Patterns, a collection of sculptures by Livia Marin, you'll get your answer. Click through the photos and be amazed!

Big Baby Blues

I have always loved this photos of David at two with his little sippy cup because of his earnest expression and his big blue eyes. Wasn't he adorable? He's still cute, too, just in a different way. Hey, I'm his mom, so I can call my adult son cute!

Split Rock Stained Glass

Last August we visited Split Rock State Park, one of the most beautiful and well-known state parks in Minnesota. The lighthouse was decomissioned in the 1960's but you can still tour both the lighthouse itself and a lighthouse keeper's home. In addition to taking the tour and watching a movie on the lighthouse's history, we hiked on surrounding trails and took pictures. John thought the anchor from the 1905 shipwreck of the Madeira tasted especially delicious.

I submitted this page to the Scrap Girls Digital Scrapbooking Friday 4/4 Challenge to create a page inspired by a card. When I looked at Nica's lovely Fathers' Day card, I thought of a stained glass window. I created a template based on an image of a stained glass window, and came up with this page.  The other things I used were my photos, a PSE bevel action, and a marble paper from Brandy Murry's Shabby Blanc (used as an overlay).

Ahoy, Maties!

Last August, as our family explored the Grand Marais breakwater, we spotted a large sailing ship leaving the harbor. Since it was so close, I immediately thought of taking a family photo with the ship in the background. The others were willing to pose, although they did get tired after a couple dozen shots. This is one of the photos I captured that day.

Okinawan Lion Dog

Everywhere we went in Okinawa we saw lion dogs, called “shii-saa” in Okinawan. Most homes had a pair of these guardian dogs on their gateposts to ward off evil spirits and keep in good spirits. This large shisa sculpture was by the boys’ school.  That is John standing at the base of the sculpture.

I submitted this page to the Thursday 4/3 Art Inspiration Challenge at Scrap Girls Digital Scrapbooking.  The challenge was to create a page inspired by two vessels selected by Nica. The first one by Jennifer McCurdy, shown here, inspired me to use white branches on my page. The second one by Mary O’Malley, shown here, inspired the cream, red-orange and gold color palette.

Cubic Giraffe

This page is totally for fun!  When looking up cubism online for a Scrap Girls Digital Scrapbooking Challenge, I found paintings like this one by Picasso.  I also found photos that had been altered to incoporate rectangular shapes.  You can see some of them here.  The idea struck me as so funny that I decided to give it a try. What do you think?

The template is by me, and the giraffe is a stock photo. All other materials are expired freebies from Scrap Girls Digital Scrapbooking.
