1917 Twins - Papou and Cissy

Papou, Harry's dad, and Cissy, Harry's aunt, were twins. When they were babies, Papou would finish his bottle first and then grab Cissy’s and drink hers, too.

Artistic Freedom

I created this page in order to step outside my comfort zone, and I definitely did that!

Artistic Freedom
There is no right way;
there is no wrong way.

There is no best;
there is no worst.

I am free to choose,
and that is right.

The Color Run

The 5K Color Run wasn't for world peace or any other "worthy" cause. You just got splattered with paint as you ran! I think Sara, Steven, John and Kristine had fun.

My Favorite Teacher

“What do you need, beans to make you go?” More than three decades later, I still remember the phrase my high school band director used to encourage our band to follow his baton as he upped the tempo. Mr. Melichar was passionate about music and you had to work hard to be in his band. In addition to the daily rehearsals during school and personal practice sessions at home, there were afternoon and/or evening rehearsals added as we prepared for concerts. Band was more like a team sport than a school subject. Mr. Melichar expected excellence from his students, and we tried to make him proud.

The most memorable concerts were the POPS concerts, usually held six times over two weeks. We would perform popular music, band music, and orchestral scores rewritten for band interspersed with short humorous skits. POPS concerts also included one short musical, with band members as the cast, chorus and pit band. After each of these concerts, there would be a party, and Mr. Melichar would be there, listening to all the audio tapes with us. The next day he would give us a page or two of closely typed notes on ways we could improve at the next concert.

Looking back now, I am glad I had a teacher that pushed hard and taught me to strive to succeed. Mr. Melichar gave us lessons for life wrapped in music.
