Chef's Specialty

With great flair, the chef at Benihana cooked a meal on a hot grill in front of us. Here is an egg flower he made which he later put into chicken fried rice. (Nov 2015)

Cooking From the Heart

Mom was an excellent cook and enjoyed having the family over for holiday meals. However, on this occasion there was no holiday. Mom just wanted to cook up the turkey she had in the freezer, so she invited the crew for a February feast. It was all delicious! Because of Mom’s Alzheimer’s, this turned out to be the last big meal she hosted, so it is a special memory.

Piggyback in Copper

I love playing around with this coppery idea! When looking on the internet for examples of copper used in decor, I came across a delightful set of five panels used as wall art. This page is inspired by that artwork.

These photos may look familiar since I featured them in a previous post. Click here to see the full-color photos of the boys riding piggyback, including an animated version of six-foot-four-inch Steven running with six-foot David on his back.

I submitted this page to the 11/5/15 Scrap Girls Digital Scrapbooking Thursday Challenge to create a page in copper monotone. I couldn't locate the exact piece of wall art I used for inspiration, but here is an example found at Modern Abstract Decor.

Arboretum in Autumn

My sisters and I love to go to the Minnesota Arboretum and stroll through the gorgeous gardens. Nancy's husband Bill also enjoyed this special place. This seemed a very fitting place for the three of us to visit on the fourth anniversary of the Bill's death.

Have you noticed the current trend to use copper in interior decorating?  I chose to add some fun, trendy copper accents to this page. First, I took a template from Digital Layout Album: Photobook - Modern Magazine and added a copper style to the template’s lines using ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Touch of Metal 12001. Next, I extracted some intricate designs from papers from Idyllic Collection and Captured Collection, added the same copper style, and used them in three spaces in the template. Finally, I clipped a layer of copper color with the mode set to “Color” on top of two different metal elements to make them look coppery.

Gravity in Action

I took this fun series of photos at our family's Fourth of July celebration on Big Island. This is definitely gravity in action!

A Christmas Tradition

When I was little, every year at Christmas time we would visit both sets of grandparents. My dad’s parents lived on the farm where they raised their six boys. Grandma always wore a housedress and Grandpa always wore overalls. They would have a tall, skinny Christmas tree that just fit into the corner of their small living room.

You can tell from our faces that we all enjoyed getting together. Even my stoic grandpa is looking at my little sister with the tiny whisper of a smile. From left to right: Liz (2), Mabel, Nancy (6), Oscar, Sue (5)

Lovely Fall Tree

I spotted this lovely tree on a trip through town, and had to stop to take a picture of this autumn splendor.  God's paintings in nature are astoundingly beautiful!
